Together with AIM-European Brands Association and several other European industry associations, UNESDA calls on the European Commission and Member States to adopt a pragmatic approach for the future of harmonised EU packaging labels, in line with the EU’s goals to simplify rules, preserve the integrity of the Single Market and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness.
UNESDA supports simple, text-free pictograms with the possibility of using digital labelling.
Our members place packaging on the EU market and beyond and are committed to providing clear and consistent sorting information for consumers. Yet, we face a growing number of overlapping labelling obligations that create market barriers and result in operational inefficiencies, increased costs, and confusion for consumers. This is the reason why we call for future EU harmonised labels to:
- Assure the free movement of goods
- Reduce unnecessary costs and administrative burdens
- Ensure clear sorting information for consumers
- Enable flexible solutions, including digital labelling and Digital Product Passports
